The content standards presented in this chapter outline what college students ought to know, perceive, and be able to do in pure science. During that decade, two works appeared en seriatim that signaled what Steve Woolgar was to call the “flip to know-how”: Social Shaping of Technology (MacKenzie and Wajcman, 1985) and The Social Construction of Technological Programs (Bijker, Hughes and Pinch, 1987).
